Got out at around 2:45pm after the Grand Prix. Cycled out of the top of Matfield through Badsell and Capel in the direction of Tonbridge, as we were pedalling along the road we saw a fly by of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
They were doing a fly past at Beltring for the War and Peace show. For the last week it has been as if my local town is under occupation, with full size tanks in the petrol station, innumerable military jeeps, land rovers motor bikes etc everywhere you can see.
Later in the cycle we also saw the two Spitfires returning to base.
We went through the centre of Tonbridge and out the other side. From here there was a massive climb up to Bidbourgh Ridge. On the way up we past two horse riders. I’m sure that would be a much easier way to do the hill climbs, went through Southbrough and took a left to take us past the gas works, around here we met some temporary traffic lights which I got luck and timed exactly right, was over taking the stationary cars and got beside the first one as the light turned Yellow then just nailed it. I didn’t see the car again!! That took us up to Pembury road, and we took the standard route back through Pembury to Matfield.
Distance 18.15 miles – I always think it is much longer than it actually is!
Time 1 hr 14 minutes 25 seconds
Pace 4:05 mins per mile
Avg Speed 14.6 mph
Max speed – I’m going to give two speeds here! Garmin – 39.7 mph (GPS) Cateye Mity 8 41mph (wired) either way a new top speed!!!
Total Ascent 1683 feet
No Cycling next weekend as I am Paddling the Trewyrn River with the University of Surrey Canoe Club but fingers crossed for a mid week pedal
